Southwestern Colorado trip, Blog number 2...

Ok, so here is the second set of pictures from our trip, as you remember we left off on the last blog at the 4th of July, so this one picks back up on July 5th...

We packed up from Ben's aunt and uncles house...Vanessa had to say goodbye to cubbie...

We were headed to my Grandparents cabin at a trout fishing club called, Pearl Lakes. Pearl Lakes is just about 20 miles from Silverton as the crow flies. You have to go over a huge mountain to get there and it's not paved, 4-wheeling only! Most people take the high way around the mountain and it takes about 4 hours. The 4-wheel trail takes about 4 hours as well because of how slow you have to go, but it's a much prettier drive, so we took that route! This is the beginning of the drive, absolutely beautiful Colorado...

Vanessa LOVES to 4-wheel, after big bumps she always says, "again, again, again"
(note that she is wearing her beautiful parade jewerly)

We stopped at the top to have lunch and to feed Ava...at about 12,000 feet the view goes on forever and ever!

It was getting a bit chilly and overcast, so Ben let Vanessa sit in the front seat for a while, that was a huge treat to her!

While we were having lunch we were all of a sudden overtaken by 4-wheelers!

Just hanging out on top of a mountain!

Can't say that I get this kind of a view very often while feeding Ava!

Yes I know, what was Ben thinking letting me drive? Boy o boy was it fun!!!!!!!

We arrived at Pearl Lakes safe and sound that afternoon, our car was a mess!

A few days later Ben took my brothers Garrett and Jacob on another 4-wheeling trip, this time over the divide and into some awesome ghost towns!

the 3 4-wheelers taking a break...

My brother Jesse casting out the ol' line...

The flyfisherman, Garrett...

Ben, Garrett and Jacob went on a 14 mile hike one day, this picture was taken near the top, our Grandpa in his younger years always posed like this in his pictures, so Garrett took one for him...

They had to cross a very fast and very cold stream...

Checking out the catches of the day...I have always had a hard time touching the fish, but as you can see Vanessa does not!

Jesse caught a nice 3 pounder...

Then on our last night Ben brought in a 5 pounder in the trophy lake, it is at this moment in Wyoming at the taxidermist...

He's a fatty!!!!!!

This is the cabin that we (Ben, Lauren, Vanessa and Ava) stayed in, the cabin to the right of it and across the lake is my Grandparents cabin...

My Grandparents cabin, it is so awesome!!!!!!

A still beautiful morning on the lake...

As you can see she has a rock in her hand, all week long she just wanted to throw rocks in the lake, and so she did!

Grandma "GG" playing with Ava...

They got along very well! This week was the first time that my Grandparents and my uncle had seen Ava...

On our way home we stopped by our favorite hamberbuger joint called "Freemons", they have the best burgers ever (well, maybe In 'n' Out comes in right before), but they are just loaded with grease! That's why we only get one a year!

Vanessa loves the fries!!!

Oh yeah, that's a happy mama!

Southwestern Colorado trip, Blog number 1...

Alrighty, I'm going to blog our trip in several blogs, so look for more to follow in the next few days. We started our trip early in the morning of July 3rd. We had an 8 hour trip ahead of us, so we headed out not really knowing what the girls would be needing. Vanessa and Ava amazed us with great traveling abilities and we made it to Silverton, Colorado around 3pm. Ben's Aunt and Uncle live there, so we went to visit for a few days...

Vanessa's first Dairy Queen (isn't it exciting Nicole!?!)...

I'm pretty sure that she liked it...

Dairy Queen probably doesn't hear this too often: Ben thought his blizzard had too many M&M'S!

Lovin' on sister...

Silverton throws one of the most amazing 4th of July's I've ever been to! They start with a parade at 10:30 which is such a blast, this is Vanessa holding on to Cubbie (Ben's aunt and uncle's dog)...

Hanging out before the parade...Ben's uncle is behind Vanessa in the red shirt.

Tommy is one of Ben's aunt and uncle's friends and rides this bike in the parade!

Vanessa and great-aunt Pricilla trying to get as much candy as possible at the parade...

Silverton is in Colorado 4 wheel drive territory, so a parade just wouldn't be right without a bunch of 4 wheelers...

Diggin' the candy and necklaces...

Ben and Vanessa...

One of the highlights of the day is a huge water fight between the local fire departments...they also take part in the parade keeping everyone nice and hosed off!

Vanessa met a new friend and they played in the water for quite a long time!

Having a ball of a good time!

A surprise soaking...

Ava had a blast...

Getting ready for the big fight!

Seriously, they go at it!!!!!

Soaking the onlookers as well. We had to step back as Vanessa wasn't too excited about getting wet.

Ben, However, loved the idea of getting wet!

Just wouldn't be southwest Colorado without a bunch of Jeeps doing crazy things!

Ben's Aunt helping Vanessa put on a tattoo...

The columbine are amazing at this altitude...

This picture was taken from their front yard, they seriously have the best seats in town!!!

More blogs to follow at a later date........
