Aspen Getaway

Ben surprised me with a weekend away to Aspen, Colorado during the height of the leaf turning season. It was surprising to both of us to find out that neither of us had ever been to Aspen even after living in Colorado most of our lives. We were blown away by the breathtaking beauty of the mountains and the leaves and we had the most wonderful time together!

The drive up was just stunning, the pass coming into Aspen is called Independence Pass and it is just loaded with turning leaves...

Our awesome B & B, Hotel Lenado in Aspen...

Walking around a deserted downtown Aspen...they have the most charming little brook running along the sidewalk...

We finally found a restaurant that was open and we were the only people in it the entire evening, very relaxing!

The best Wonton soup I've ever had!

While we were eating it started to rain outside, walking back to the B & B was so fun and the streets looked so pretty all wet and shinny!

We came back to the B & B and remembered that they have these huge down stuffed couches, once we sat down there was no going back!

We then decided that it would be fun to go to this huge, way expensive place that all the stars stay at, and have some dessert...it's called St. Regis and it's amazing!

When we woke up the next morning we were excited to see that it had snowed a bit during the night...so we headed up to the famous Maroon Bells to see them live for the first time. Nothing could have prepared Ben and I for the magnificent beauty. We hit them on a prime day a) it had snowed so the Bells had the white lines on them, b) the colors of the leaves were at their prime, c) it was the clearest day they had seen for a while and d) there wasn't even the slightest bit of wind, so the lake was like glass. It was amazing! We spent a good hour or so taking pictures and just marveling! We were surrounded by about 20 or so photographers and they were all in awe at the perfection of the morning!

Still more patches of aspens on the drive back to town...

Isn't this one awesome! Ben is such a creative photographer, he pulled off the road on the way home and snapped a couple of beautiful shots!

I'm thinking this one blown up and framed would look stunning above our bed! By the way, Ben is considering starting up a photo business online, if/when it happens I'll let you all know!
